CoHSAT recently submitted a response to the Botley Road and West Way Improvement Scheme Phase 1 consultation, following a meeting of partners. The Botley Road is the main road into the centre of Oxford from the west and is recognised as being a very slow route in and out of the city centre, facing daily traffic problems. It’s a vital public transport link which hosts a Park & Ride at Seacourt, plus lots of cyclists and buses. The improvements being consulted on include upgraded junctions at Eynsham Road and at Seacourt Park-and-Ride, new cycle lanes and shared pedestrian and cycle paths, and new pedestrian and cycle crossings.
Our members believe that the scheme at present does not yet align with the bold proposals set out in Connecting Oxford, as these proposals are based on the maintenance of traffic flows, whereas the radical proposals in Connecting Oxford will result in a considerable drop in motor traffic.
